ABOUT US

rescue, rehabilitation, and lifelong placement

Second Chance Pigeon Rescue was founded in January, 2026, and located in Franklin, OH. Since 2025, we have been rehabilitating under the guidance of Great Lakes Pigeon Rescue, Derby City Pigeon Rescue, and other rescues across the globe (and, of course, an avian veterinarian) to ensure the best care and treatment is provided. Our mission is to take in non-releasable pigeons in the southwest region of Ohio and the surrounding areas, provide veterinary care and treatment, and eventually adopt them out so they can find a forever home.

Pigeons are considered invasive by federal law, so federally funded wildlife rescues are unable to take them in, even if some privately rehabilitators do. Traditional animal shelters often don't accept pigeons either. This leaves them with nowhere to go. In many realms of society, pigeons are considered vermin and "sky rats."

We at Second Chance Pigeon Rescue know the truth despite stereotypes and misconceptions. Pigeons are intelligent, and make amazing companions for someone willing to give pigeons the time and patience to settle into their homes. They're known to have unique personalities, quirks, and preferences, down to if the paper is a certain color or thickness. They can be trained to recognize themselves in a mirror. For years before its founding and for the decades to come, Second Chance Pigeon Rescue aims to advocate for these birds abandoned by the human race, and showing the public that these birds can become welcoming companions for anyone willing to have the patience to let them settle in.
